Goalkeeper Kirby stars as Castlebar Celtic progress in cup

GOALKEEPER Danny Kirby played a key role as Castlebar Celtic progressed to the seventh round of the FAI Junior Cup at the expense of Tolka Rovers at Frank Cooke Park today, the final score being 2-0.

His handling skills proved critical as the Mayo Super League champions were put under pressure time and again by Rovers' aerial raids.

The Hoops took the lead in the 28th minute through Ioseph O'Reilly following a lightening attack and they defended the advantage well until half-time.

Castlebar took control of the clash in the 64th minute when prolific striker Jordan Loftus made it 2-0 in the 64th minute.

Castlebar were under a great deal of pressure in the closing quarter but displayed their composure and concentration.

Now they face Gorey Rangers at home in the next round at home.
