Sinn Fèin now neck and neck with Fianna Fàil on 24%

Sinn Féin has further increased its popularity less than a week away from general election polling day, a Business Post/Red C opinion poll has indicated.

The party is now tied in first place with Fianna Fáil, it revealed tonight.

The survey of 1,000 voters suggests Fine Gael is now lying in 3rd place - the first time in this series of Red C polls that Sinn Féin has ever registered a higher level of support than Fine Gael.

The poll, which was taken over six days up to last Thursday, indicates that Fianna Fáil is on 24% support - a drop of two points on the last comparable poll earlier this month.

The biggest shift in support is for Sinn Féin, which is up five points to 24% - and follows an 8-point increase in the previous poll.

Fine Gael drops two points with party's support now gauged at 21% - that follows a seven-point drop in the last poll.

The Green Party is down one to 7%, while Labour is up one to 5%. Independents are down two to 12%.

The Social Democrats are unchanged at 3%, with Solidarity-PBP down one to 1%.

Aontú is on 2% support, up one point. Other parties are listed as having 1%.

There is a margin of error associated with this poll of plus or minus 3%.
