Hospital reports 'limited bed availability' today

MAYO University Hospital is 'extremely busy' today (Friday).

There are currently very limited beds available throughout the hospital as a significant number of ill patients have been admitted recently.

In addition, the hospital has an infection control measure in place due to a number of cases of Norovirus (vomiting bug) and this is making the situation more challenging.

A statement issued this afternoon by the HSE said: “Across the hospital efforts continue to be made to identify patients who are appropriate for discharge and we are getting support from the community to support the more complex discharges.

We would like to remind the public that we encourage them to attend the Emergency Department only in the case of real emergencies and they should contact their GP or GP out-of-hours service in the first instance.

We apologise for any distress or inconvenience caused to patients and their families.”
