Former Mayo TD set to leave public life. . .for now
FORMER Mayo TD Michelle Mulherin has announced her decision to leave public life for the immediate future.
The outgoing Fine Gael senator, who served in Dáil Éireann from 2011 to 2016, confirmed she is not contesting the forthcoming Senate elections.
She told Midwest Radio: "After giving the matter due consideration and the fact there is a short run-in to the election, I have decided not to put my name forward on this occasion.
"I have been through a fairly exhausting general election campaign, so I am going to take a break from public life for the time being. Who knows what will happen in the future."
Ms. Mulherin has been involved politics for 21 years, having being first elected to public office in the Ballina Urban Council elections in 1999. She has also served as a member of Mayo County Council.
