Two Kiltimagh students smashed it on the volleyball courts

Two Kiltimagh students were among our Merit Award winners for their exploits representing Ireland on the international volleyball courts in 2019.

Volleyball does not get the same exposure and coverage as many of the more popular sports but nontheless the effort put in by these two young men did not go unnoticed.

Both Jacques Lusson and Arron Hughes are Leaving Certificate students in St. Louis Community School, Kiltimagh - the only school in Mayo to compete in schools' volleyball.

Both have played volleyball since they were first year students and were rewarded for all their dedication and hard work last summer when they attended Irish Under 19 trials.

Following long journeys to training and overnight stays at training camps, both boys were selected to represent Ireland at The Flying Scots international tournament held in Scotland in August 2019, brining home bronze medals from this highly prestigious event.

Jacques continues to represent Ireland at Under 19 level, while Arron has suffered a serious injury and is currently recuperating.
