Mayo Stages Rally navigator teams up with local charity

MAYO Stages Rally navigator Sara McFadden has announced she is teaming up with Mayo Addiction and Suicide Awareness, a Castlebar based charity, for tomorrow's event.

She said: "When I was approached by the charity I was delighted to form the partnership with them as the voluntary work they are doing in my home town of Castlebar is fantastic.

"I believe that it ties in well with the Casper anti bullying motto that I have been carrying since I began competing in rallying.

"Starting off as a charity shop Joe (the founder) realised that many people he spoke to suffering from depression, addiction or suicidal thoughts really needed a safe place to come and talk about their problems.

"Joe then rented a bigger premises in Castlebar, Co. Mayo to facilitate a private space for a person in need and put them in contact with somebody who could help.

"People need to know that they have a safe place to go to get help when they need it.

"Joe now recognises that there is a critical need for workshops and group sessions are to help educate family and friends of those suffering about the best way they can help somebody in need.

"As a long-term lease is not available, MAASA now needs to relocate and have found a property for sale which would facilite their needs to offer the group sessions.

"MAASA does not recieve any public funding and is therefore reliant on proceeds from the charity shop, donations and fund raisers.

"Their goal is to raise €100.000 to help enable the purchase and renovation of this proprety. Every contribution helps so please support."

Sara navigates for her father Keith and they are wished every success in tomorrow's rally.
