Tight at the top in Mayo GAA leagues

The penultimate round of the Mayo GAA Division 1A and 1B league are down for decision this Saturday where wins, or even draws, for a number of teams could put their in a strong position for qualifying for the semi-final stages.

The final round of the league is scheduled for the weekend of July 29.

In Division 1A Aghamore are in a very strong position leading the table on nine points and a win over Ballaghaderreen, who are anchored to the bottom of the table without a point, this Saturday evening would put them within touching distance of a semi-final place going into their final game which is away to Garrymore.

A win for Garrymore would bring them bang into contention as they have six points.

Ballina Stephenites face Louisburgh away where a win would also see them pushing for a place n the play-offs, while county champions Knockmore face Claremorris a win for the champions at home would also bring them very much into contention ahead of the final round.

In Division 1B Breaffy and Castlebar Mitchels are both on eight points and in very strong positions but both need to win or get a pint for their games this Saturday, with Westport still very much in the hunt on seven points and they take on Castlebar Mitchels at Josie Munnelly Park, while Breaffy travel to Ballinrobe.

Mayo Gaels, who are on six points, are by no means out of if but they face a Ballintubber team who needs points with just one win under their belt.

Kiltane, who are on two points, travel to Kiltimagh who are just above the danger zone on three points leaving this a battle for survival for both teams.
