Mayo girls edged in western derby at Gaynor Cup

GALWAY edged the western derby with a 2-0 victory over Mayo in their afternoon match at the Gaynor Cup tournament at UL today, both goals coming in a three-minute spell early in the first half.

Mayo worked hard at trying to get back into the game but Galway were always very dangerous when they broke at pace, usually involving the duo of Erin McCartan and Elise Day.

Mayo 'keeper Mia Killeen was very impressive throughout.

Both sides now enter the Cup with the draw taking place this evening.

Earlier in the day Mayo enjoyed a 2-0 win over Inishowen.
