225 million expansion at castlebar print business

Cashin Print is undergoing an expansion at its plant at the Breaffy Road Business Park in Castlebar.

The total investment at the leading print and design company, who employ 70 skilled staff, is €2.25 million.

A few new installations have been put in place, with more planned later in 2015. The most recent investment in machines cost over €1 million.

Cashins increased the capacity of their folding department in November with the installation of two new GUK folders, which are now commissioned and in production.

They have also added capacity to the print floor with the addition of a new Heidelberg SX102 printing press. The press has been installed and was commissioned following print testing in January.

The SX model is the latest generation press from Heidelberg, with higher run speeds and a shorter set up time achievable using the latest software and industry best practice.

Due to the new machinery being installed, Cashins are planning to extend the production floor to enable the continued smooth flow of the work through the factory. The extension will be completed by summer 2015.

Total spend on the factory extension, plus additional investment in technology and machinery, will be in excess €1.25 million.

This is also a milestone year for the company – 2015 will be the 50th year since Seamus Cashin started printing in the basement of his parents home. Half a century later, and having moved three times, the business is based about only one kilometre from the old basement, a small distance travelled but what a journey.

Fifty years under their belts rolls up into a whole lot of experience - with alot of changes in technology, Ireland and the world.

As they celebrate their 50th year, Cashins have acknowledged the contribution of their employees, past and present, without whose dedication and loyalty they would not have achieved and sustained the growth and development enjoyed by the company in the past half century.

Of course, they also say a sincere thanks to their customers, without whom Cashins would not have been in a position to develop their business over the last 50 years.
