GroMór Mayo events to encourage little growers

GROMÓR are offering parents who want their kids to be more aware of the food they’re eating, learn new skills and also get them out and about in the fresh air a fantastic opportunity. And it’s completely free.

Free growing demonstrations are taking place with GroMór gardening ambassadors Ciarán Burke this Saturday (July 9) at 12 noon in Aurivo Co-op, Ballyhaunis, and with Fiann Ó Nualláin on July 23 in Aurivo Co-op, Westport.

The focus of this weekend's demo is on gardening for the little ones, which is perfectly timed for parents who are wondering what to do with their little ones while they're on their school holidays.

With an estimated one in 50 Irish children categorised as morbidly obese and statistics that prove that kids who grow their own food are more likely to eat healthier, it is more important than ever to get involved in programmes like GroMor. Even if your child is not in this category, it’s more than likely that they’ve grown up in a generation where they don’t know where their majority of their food is coming from.

This summer has been a green one thanks to GroMór 2016, a nationwide campaign to get the country growing, in association with Bord Bia, with more than 40 demonstrations taking place at Retail Excellence Ireland garden centres nationwide.

The campaign encourages people to get out, get healthy and get growing, with top tips for seasonal gardening. With easy to follow guides on how to grow flowers, plants, herbs and vegetables, GroMór provides a refreshing approach to introducing new people to gardening, whether it be on their windowsill, their balcony or in their garden.

The aim is to make gardening accessible to everyone by offering practical advice on growing, highlighting the many benefits of gardening as a pastime and encouraging novices to dig out their wellies and discover their green fingers.
