Ear to the Ground visits Achill

TV series Ear to the Ground visited Achill in recent months and the programme featuring Achill Mountain Lamb will air early in the new year.

Presenter Darragh McCullough's meeting with Martin Calvey will be screened on Thursday, January 10, on RTÉ One at 7 p.m.

On a very early July morning, Darragh went to Achill Island as local farmer Martin Calvey was driving his sheep across Keel beach at low tide.

This gathering marked the annual beginning of the selection of this year’s hill lamb for production.

Martin, who recently won the inaugural Farming For Nature Award, has been doing this for more years than he cares to remember.
