Patrick McEveney

Putting motorsport in the fast lane

The Mayo Young Sports Stars Awards Volunteer of the Year is doing all that he can for motorsport in Mayo.

Patrick McEveney, from Snugboro, Castlebar, has been involved in motorsport for the last eight years, having been introduced to it at 14 by his dad, Pat Snr.

Along with his sister Shauna, Patrick became involved in the grassroots section of the sport in Mayo, the autocross events that Mayo & District Motorsport Club run during the year in Harrington’s Quarry in the shadow on Ireland West Airport.

Patrick quickly became a driving force behind everything motorsport related in the McEveney household and indeed in the local area, from helping out and assisting his dad marshal at events to rolling up his sleeves and getting the family Toyota Corolla prepared for autocross events, with all three of them enjoying the thrill of getting behind the wheel.

His other efforts over the years include helping promote motorsport and road safety to his peers and other students in the area by offering his expertise at local safety events organised by Mayo County Council.

The highlight of Patrick’s motorsport career to date is winning the prestigious Mayo Young Driver Award in 2018, an achievement that he went on to retain amid stiff opposition in 2019.
