Welcome Inn Hotel is put up for sale

THE Welcome Inn Hotel in Castlebar has been placed on the property market.

The decision was taken on the instructions of the receiver, George Maloney, of Dublin-based firm, Baker Tilly, Ryan Glennon Limited.

The sale, by private treaty, is being conducted by Sherry FitzGerald Crowley of James Street, Westport.

The adjoining property containing the Failte Suite function room is not included in the sale.

The rest of the property, which consists of 32 bedrooms, restaurant, lounge bar night club and meetings rooms, is on the market.

According to the auctioneers, some modernisation and refurbishment work is required.

A receiver was appointed to the hotel by the Bank of Ireland on March 21 last. The hotel, which had been run by the McHugh family since its establishment in 1962, had entered voluntary liquidation on February 18 last with the loss of 20 full-time and 25 part-time jobs.

It is understood the McHugh family will be among the leading bidders for the property and there are hopes that it could reopen for business ahead of the summer season with a number of jobs being created.
